  • "Battle of the Sedans: Honda City Facelift vs Next Gen Hyundai Verna vs Volkswagen Virtus vs Skoda Slavia"

    • The City Facelift by Honda Cars India has undergone significant updates.
    • This sedan remains a competitor to the Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia, and Next-Gen Hyundai Verna.
    • A comprehensive comparison between these cars is presented below.

The Honda City is a popular sedan in India, and the automaker has recently released a facelifted version of the car. The new model includes an entry-level trim, ADAS technology, and a new color option. It competes with the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus, and Skoda Slavia in its segment. Those considering purchasing any of these sedans should compare their exterior design, interior layout, engine options, and safety features.

The Honda City Facelift features a redesigned front grille, rear spoiler, front and rear bumpers, and new 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The Next-Gen Hyundai Verna has not yet been released, but spy shots reveal a new grille and sporty front bumper, as well as a LED light strip on the tailgate. The Virtus and Slavia, although sister cars, have distinct differences in exterior design, with the Virtus having a squared nose and L-shaped LED strips that merge with the grille, and the Slavia having a compact nose with no creases on the bonnet.

The Honda City Facelift has a spacious cabin, improved infotainment system, wireless charger, ambient lighting, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The upcoming Hyundai Verna shares some of these features, as well as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Virtus has a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity, while the Slavia has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Both cars also have Automatic Climate Control, Cruise Control, and a wireless charger.

The safety features of the Honda City Facelift include 6 airbags, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep features, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Adaptive Cruise Control. The Hyundai Verna may also have ADAS tech, but this has not been confirmed. The Virtus and Slavia both have 6 airbags, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages, ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Assist, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and a rear parking camera.

The Honda City Facelift has a petrol and hybrid option, with a 1.5-litre petrol engine (119 bhp and 145 Nm torque) and a 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle hybrid power plant (121 bhp and 253 Nm torque). The former is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT stick option while the latter comes paired to an e-CVT gearbox. The Hyundai Verna is expected to have a 1.5-litre MPi petrol and a 1.5-litre Turbo GDi petrol unit, while the Virtus and Slavia both have a 1.0-litre Turbo petrol (113 bhp and 178 Nm torque) and a 1.5-litre Turbo petrol (148 bhp and 250 Nm torque) option.

The Honda City Facelift petrol is priced between Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 15.97 lakh (ex-showroom) while the City e:HEV Facelift is being offered at Rs 18.89 lakh to Rs 20.39 lakh (ex-showroom). The Next-Gen Verna is expected to be slightly cheaper, with an estimated price range between Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom). The Slavia and Virtus sit in similar price brackets, with the Slavia ranging from Rs 11.29 lakh to 18.40 lakh (ex-showroom), and the Virtus retailing between Rs 11.32 lakh to Rs 18.42 lakh (ex-showroom).
